Our trunks are surrounded by an allure emanating from the art of hand-painting. This unconventional technique of playing with dyes, pigments and oils to fresh-forge finishes ignites the individuality of each creation. As the facade is layered, stroke after stroke, in the signature hues of Trunks Company, a work of art so inimitable is born into existence.
Our journey of bringing a hand-painted trunk to life begins with the segregation of the finest leather from select skins of supreme quality. The uncoated hide is first scoured for flaws down to the last millimeter before it can be burnished to even out in thickness and tone in preparation for the next stage. The hide is then carted into our master colorists’ workroom within the Trunks Company atelier for the artistic alchemy to take place.
Our colours are carefully concocted based on climatic conditions and surface area of the hide before the meticulous process of painting begins. A few strokes of paint are sponged and brushed onto the leather over a delicate cycle of layering and drying. It is then taken in for bung to ensure that the coatings sink and set through heat exposure. The hide is, once again, painstakingly painted on until the texture of the finish has been attained.
A few delicate strokes from a soft-bristled brush draw out residue from the process of coloring that rests beneath the lines and curves of our trunk.
As conditioning wax is circularly smeared onto the fresh-forged facade, a sheen-like lustre theatrically unveils itself to the audience of our artisans.
The final wipe of a soft cotton cloth on the hand-painted hide prepares and primes our exquisite artwork to be showcased to the world in all its glory.
